Job Overview
A law firm with offices in Macon and Augusta, Georgia, is seeking a licensed attorney to serve as Personal Injury Practice Support Counsel, with a focus on bankruptcy and probate court approvals related to personal injury settlements. This role supports a high-volume personal injury practice by ensuring settlements comply with federal bankruptcy law and Georgia probate requirements. The position primarily involves procedural oversight of settlements requiring court approval, advising litigation teams, and coordinating matters involving bankruptcy trustees, estates, and court filings.

Duties

• Review client intake information and conduct PACER searches to identify active or prior bankruptcy filings
• Advise attorneys regarding disclosure obligations and potential risks in cases involving bankruptcy issues
• Prepare and file motions seeking court approval of settlements or compromises in bankruptcy matters
• File motions to reopen bankruptcy cases when necessary
• Coordinate with Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 trustees regarding settlement proceeds and approvals
• Ensure appropriate bankruptcy court authorization before disbursement of settlement funds
• Assist families in establishing estates when a represented client passes away during the course of representation
• Support families in obtaining Letters Testamentary or Letters of Administration when required
• Coordinate the allocation of wrongful death proceeds and estate-related claims
• Manage probate court approvals for settlements involving minors
• Assist with the preparation and approval of structured settlements
• Coordinate guardianship or conservatorship filings when necessary
• Serve as internal counsel to litigation and pre-litigation teams on bankruptcy and probate matters related to personal injury claims

Requirements

• Experience handling matters involving bankruptcy or probate oversight related to personal injury settlements
• Ability to navigate procedural requirements for court approvals involving minors, estates, or bankrupt claimants
• Familiarity with structured settlements and special needs trusts is preferred
• Strong ability to collaborate with litigation teams and manage procedural compliance issues

Education and Certifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia
• Admission to practice before the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Georgia

Skills

• Knowledge of bankruptcy procedures related to settlement approvals
• Understanding of Georgia probate court processes involving estates, minors, and incapacitated individuals
• Legal research and motion drafting skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
