Immigration Associate Attorney – Removal Defense & Family-Based Immigration
Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm based in Orange County, CA, is seeking a driven and adaptable Immigration Associate Attorney to join a thriving immigration practice. This position offers a dynamic platform to work alongside a collaborative team of attorneys and legal staff while independently managing a diverse caseload. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong foundation in removal defense and family-based immigration matters, with the ability to provide strategic legal analysis and client-focused solutions.
Duties:
Provide legal counsel to clients on immigration issues and recommend tailored legal strategies
Represent clients-detained and non-detained-before Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals
Conduct in-person intake interviews with individuals at detention centers
Oversee the preparation and submission of a range of immigration filings, including family petitions and removal defense applications
Review and revise legal packets and documentation for accuracy and completeness
Advocate before government agencies and community organizations regarding immigration policy updates
Conduct consultations with prospective clients to assess eligibility and develop legal strategies
Prepare witnesses and clients for court or USCIS proceedings
Draft and file legal briefs and supporting documents for various immigration proceedings
Maintain effective caseload management and timely case progression in collaboration with legal support staff
Requirements:
1 to 4 years of direct experience practicing U.S. immigration law
Demonstrated commitment to client advocacy and case strategy development
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Prior courtroom or hearing experience strongly preferred
Proficiency in handling cases involving EOIR, family-based immigration, humanitarian relief, citizenship, and related applications
Familiarity with legal case management systems is an asset
Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school
Certifications:
Active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar
Skills:
Client advisory and advocacy skills in high-stakes or sensitive situations
Legal research and analytical writing for complex immigration matters
Collaboration in team environments with legal and non-legal professionals
Case strategy, brief writing, and oral advocacy proficiency
