This role supports the firm’s expanding intellectual property practice and involves prosecuting patents, advising on complex life sciences inventions, and delivering strategic counsel to innovative clients. Duties:
Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotech and pharmaceutical fields
Collaborate with clients to develop and implement IP strategies aligned with business objectives
Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity analyses
Communicate effectively with inventors, in-house counsel, and patent examiners
Review scientific disclosures to identify potentially patentable subject matter
Guide global patent portfolio management
Maintain updated knowledge of developments in patent law and life sciences
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in patent prosecution related to biotechnology or pharmaceuticals
Demonstrated ability to manage projects independently while working collaboratively within a team
High level of written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to client service and responsiveness
Licensed to practice before the USPTO
Active membership in, or ability to gain admission through reciprocity to, the Oregon or Washington Bar (attorneys only)
Education:
Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred) in biological sciences, such as:
Molecular and Cellular Biology
Biochemistry
Immunology
Biology or related fields
Certifications:
USPTO Registration required (for both attorneys and agents)
Skills:
Strong technical and analytical acumen
Precision in legal writing and argumentation
Ability to synthesize complex scientific concepts for legal purposes
Team-oriented mindset with self-driven initiative
Familiarity with global patent landscapes and regulations
Job Location:
