Duties:
Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors
Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity analyses
Collaborate with internal teams and clients to understand scientific concepts and align them with legal strategy
Review and draft opinions, respond to office actions, and support IP portfolio development
Maintain ongoing communication with clients and manage expectations with a service-focused approach
Contribute to strategic planning for IP protections aligned with clients’ commercial objectives
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in biotech or pharmaceutical patent prosecution
Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal assignments with limited supervision
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Excellent written communication and analytical skills
Familiarity with patent filing and prosecution processes in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Education:
Advanced degree (MS or PhD preferred) in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or molecular and cellular biology
JD from an accredited law school (required for attorney applicants)
Certifications:
USPTO registration (required)
Active license in Oregon or Washington, or eligibility for reciprocity
Skills:
Scientific literacy in biotechnology and pharmaceutical innovations
Legal drafting and analytical reasoning
Client relationship management
Team collaboration and initiative-taking
Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
