The Senior Practitioner in Residence is a senior staff attorney who will represent detained and non-detained New Jersey residents currently in removal proceedings as part of the Detention and Deportation Defense Initiative (DDDI). The Senior Practitioner in Residence will help supervise detention fellows, law graduates, and law students; will work closely with the project's Managing Attorney, and will work with Professors and Practitioners in the Immigrants' Rights/International Human Rights Clinic, along with two paralegals, and clinic students or externs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Represent immigrants in proceedings before the immigration court, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and other legal proceedings related to the immigration case. Representation includes client interviewing, drafting and filing court petitions, and court appearances.

Attend meetings with other attorneys and staff working on the state-wide universal representation project for detained immigrants, including meetings at Seton Hall Law School and general coalition meetings.

Track client work and prepare grant reports

Supervise work of detention fellows and law students.

Required Qualifications:

J.D. required; At least 2 years' experience in immigration law. Must be an attorney in good standing.

Licenses and Certificates:

Must be licensed to practice in a bar of any state (NJ bar membership is a plus, though not required).
