A law firm seeks a Patent Agent specializing in high tech to join their Intellectual Property team in Austin, TX. This role involves complex client work, including drafting patent applications and responses to the USPTO, while supporting attorneys in delivering efficient legal services.

Duties

  • Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
  • Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
  • Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
  • Advise attorneys on general and specific technologies.
  • Conduct regulatory and factual research.
  • Coordinate workflow with outside service providers.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
  • Provide direction to legal support staff as needed.
  • Stay updated on technology trends and patent prosecution issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
  • Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technology trends.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
