Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Richmond, VA, seeks a mid- to senior-level associate with robust experience in transactional tax matters, particularly within the energy sector. This role involves advising on complex tax structuring, drafting partnership agreements, and preparing tax opinions, with regular client interaction and firm-wide collaboration. Ideal candidates will contribute to both client representation and thought leadership across professional platforms.

Duties:

• Structure and negotiate tax aspects of corporate and partnership transactions, primarily in the energy sector

• Draft and review partnership and joint venture agreements with attention to tax efficiency

• Prepare and analyze complex tax opinions related to transactions

• Collaborate with attorneys across various practice areas on firm-wide matters

• Engage with clients regularly to provide strategic tax advice

• Participate in professional organizations and contribute to industry publications and events

Requirements:

• Mid to senior-level experience in transactional tax, with emphasis on the energy industry

• Familiarity with partnership taxation, including formation and operational aspects

• Demonstrated ability to draft tax-focused transaction documents and legal opinions

• Strong analytical, research, and writing skills

• Proven track record of handling complex client matters in a fast-paced environment

• Admitted to practice and in good standing in Virginia

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

• Strong academic credentials preferred

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in Virginia (mandatory)

Skills:

• Deep understanding of U.S. federal income taxation as it applies to partnerships and corporations

• Familiarity with the tax implications of energy transactions
