Job Overview:
A highly respected law firm is seeking a full-time, USPTO-registered Patent Agent to support its Electronics & Software team. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications related to advanced software technologies. This position offers the opportunity to engage in strategic intellectual property work with clients developing next-generation innovations.
Location:
Washington, DC
Duties:
Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications focused on software-related inventions
Collaborate with attorneys and clients to provide guidance on intellectual property protection strategies
Conduct patentability, prior art, and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses
Participate in invention disclosure meetings with inventors and internal teams
Provide support for IP portfolio development and strategic counseling
Submit technical and academic documentation (transcripts, writing samples) as requested
Requirements:
At least 3 years of experience in patent prosecution
Proficiency in handling software-related subject matter
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent written and oral communication abilities
Ability to manage multiple deadlines across varied projects
Client-focused approach to legal services and IP strategy
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in one of the following or closely related disciplines:
Computer Engineering
Computer Science
Electrical Engineering
Mathematics
Physics
Certifications:
Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Reg. No. required)
Skills:
Technical experience or subject matter knowledge in areas such as:
Cloud computing
Security and encryption technologies
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Bioinformatics
Mobile application development
Database management systems
Networking and communication systems
Strong patent drafting and analytical skills
Capable of working independently and as part of a legal-technical team
Experience with client interaction and counseling preferred
