Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Upper Marlboro, MD, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Family Law Attorney. The role involves handling a wide range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, asset division, and estate planning. The attorney will provide legal counsel, manage client relationships, and lead a team of junior associates and paralegals. Duties:

  • Represent clients in court proceedings, including trials and hearings.
  • Manage all aspects of family law cases from initiation to completion.
  • Oversee the division of marital assets and handle estate planning matters.
  • Develop legal strategies by analyzing client needs and situations.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents, including motions, briefs, and pleadings.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare detailed reports on case issues.
  • Maintain an organized and up-to-date filing system for client documents.
  • Regularly appear in court and attend client meetings, hearings, and depositions.
  • Guide legal assistants and junior associates.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, senior attorneys, and court officials.
  • Collaborate with experts when necessary to strengthen case arguments.
  • Build and nurture relationships with current and prospective clients.
  • Ensure professionalism in all court appearances and client interactions.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of litigation experience in family law.
  • Active law license in the District of Columbia.
  • Proven ability to manage relationships with clients, colleagues, and external parties.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Experience in courtroom litigation, trial preparation, and trial advocacy.
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior legal staff.
  • Familiarity with Google Drive and G-Suite products.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in the District of Columbia.
  • Maryland Bar license (preferred).

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Skilled negotiator with the ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Capable of multitasking and managing multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Proficient in using case management systems, especially MyCase (preferred).
