Job Overview
A prominent international law firm is seeking a Senior Environmental & Land Use Attorney to support Texas-based energy and infrastructure matters. This role is critical to advising on environmental compliance, permitting, and transactional risk in high-value renewable energy, infrastructure, and power development projects. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of legal innovation in areas such as carbon capture, hydrogen, and other energy transition technologies, while engaging closely with regulatory bodies, developers, and financial stakeholders.

Duties
Advise on environmental permitting and land use entitlements across Texas
Engage with regulatory agencies such as TCEQ, RRC, and local municipal authorities
Support permitting for air, water, wetlands, endangered species, UIC, and offshore activities
Manage environmental impact assessments under NEPA and state/local programs
Conduct environmental due diligence for project finance and M&A transactions
Draft and negotiate environmental terms in financing and acquisition agreements
Collaborate with lenders, sponsors, and project counsel on bankability and compliance
Review and interpret Phase I/II ESAs, biological studies, and wetlands delineations
Analyze title and survey reports for environmental restrictions and lender conditions
Counsel on ESA compliance, conservation planning, and utility commission procedures
Provide legal support for projects involving CCS, hydrogen, and carbon markets
Advise on international and cross-border environmental compliance when applicable
Requirements
Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental and land use law
Deep familiarity with Texas regulatory frameworks and entitlement processes
Experience advising on project permitting, environmental compliance, and real estate risk
Background in supporting transactions involving energy or infrastructure assets
Ability to lead environmental strategy within cross-functional legal teams
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications
Active license to practice law in the U.S.
Texas Bar admission preferred
Skills
Expertise in environmental regulations (CERCLA, RCRA, NEPA, ESA) and permitting
Strong contract drafting and negotiation capabilities for transactional matters
Proficiency in analyzing technical environmental documentation and reports
Skilled at identifying and mitigating environmental risks affecting development
Excellent client communication and regulatory liaison abilities
Knowledge of emerging energy technologies and sustainability policies
