Courtroom Attorney
The candidate will provide legal support to the Division of Children and Family Services as a juvenile court attorney for the Eastern Service Area. The attorney in this position will appear as a special assistant attorney general representing the Department in juvenile court proceedings, with an emphasis on child welfare proceedings. This position may provide litigation support to the agency and Attorney General's Office, as needed, which may include the handling of appeals filed with the Nebraska appellate courts on behalf of the agency. This courtroom attorney may conduct privilege reviews for compliance with public records requests and discovery requests, as needed. Should have Three years of experience as an attorney practicing law and providing legal services such as preparing and trying cases, advising clients, and/or interpreting laws or administrative policies. Should preferably have graduated from an accredited school of law and admission to the Nebraska Bar; and experience appearing as an attorney in juvenile court proceedings; juvenile court experience in Nebraska is preferred but not required. Should have ability to: provide legal support to the agency in juvenile court proceedings; interpret and apply statutes, case law, decisions of court/administrative hearings, federal and state regulations, and administrative rules and policies on a variety of legal issues; effectively communicate and interact with legal associates, other government employees, and the public; conduct legal research; formulate legal opinions and recommendations based on legal research; identify critical elements of legal questions or issues; and use a computer for word processing and research.
