Job Title: Estate Planning - Elder Law Attorney
Job Overview:
A boutique legal practice located in Chatham, NY, is seeking a seasoned attorney to join its estate planning and elder law team. Duties:
Lead client consultations on estate planning, elder law, and probate matters
Advise clients on fiduciary appointments such as trustees, powers of attorney, and guardians
Draft customized estate plans using wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and asset protection strategies
Guide Medicaid planning, asset transfers, and trust funding
Collaborate with financial planners, insurance professionals, and other advisors
Oversee document execution, including remote and in-home signings as needed
Supervise support staff in preparing and processing legal documents
Deliver presentations and support firm-sponsored educational events
Stay current on estate planning and elder law developments through legal research and internal briefings
Requirements:
Admission to practice law in New York and good standing
Minimum of 5 years of substantive experience in estate planning and elder law
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex legal concepts to clients in an accessible manner
Comfortable handling all aspects of estate planning from consultation to execution
Technologically proficient and adaptable to evolving systems and tools
Commitment to client service, attention to detail, and timely task execution
Capable of working independently with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active membership in the New York State Bar
Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
Empathy and professionalism in client interactions
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, CRM platforms (e.g., Zoho), and calendaring systems
Capacity to manage a fast-paced caseload with care and efficiency
Collaborative mindset with a willingness to support team members
Strong ties to the Capital Region or Northern Hudson Valley area preferred
Job Location:
Chatham, NY
In-office presence expected 3 days per week; flexibility for remote work on remaining days
