Department Chairperson
The candidate with serve as the chair of the Department of Political Science and History, with overall responsibility for managing the department, to include budget, enrollment, course scheduling, faculty evaluation of teaching effectiveness, as well as for ensuring the department meets goals in the areas of recruitment, retention, and grantsmanship. Should also be committed to teaching, the advisement of students and capable of leading faculty in research and grantsmanship activity. Reports directly to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education and is part of the School’s leadership team. As a faculty member, will also be required to teach a variety of courses in Political Science, including courses in legal theory, legal research, legal writing, law and judicial process, the constitution, logic, and the like. Other responsibilities include student advisement, research, grantsmanship, and service. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate capacity for leadership, an active research agenda, potential for, or record of, externally funded research activity, and commitment to quality teaching and mentoring of students. Must be holding a Ph.D. in Political Science and/or a J.D. from an accredited university and being a member in good standing of the Virginia Bar. Should have experience teaching at the university level in undergraduate settings, ability to conduct scholarly/funded research and publish in peer-reviewed outlets, and the ability to advise students.
