VP, Casualty Claim Leader

The candidate will manage and provide leadership to direct reports with respect to investigating, reserving, expense management, resolving claims, and overall claims handling in accordance with Best Practices. Will align with Senior Casualty Leadership securing and conveying company's corporate and claims business philosophy. Make recommendations to Senior Casualty Leadership for appropriate coverage, reserve, and settlement authority to supervisors and examiners, as commensurate with their respective abilities and reevaluate as warranted. Reinforce and support the integration of all company claims employees by modeling and promoting a culture of positivity and inclusion. Seek feedback from those in the reporting structure and promptly address concerns and/or behaviors, elevating issues to the Senior Casualty Leadership as needed. Monitor the work product for each of the direct reports (supervisors, claim representatives, etc.) for compliance with requisite standards. This includes actively reviewing file submissions and requests for assistance pertaining to complex coverage issues and large exposure cases above the authority of each direct report. This also includes ongoing review of best practice compliance results, together with the implementation of action plans for sustained and/or improved compliance. With regard to severe or complex coverage cases, ensure timely and effective recognition, escalation, and committee presentation to senior management. Develop proficient claims presentation skills for self, direct reports and others for successful participation in the committee process and other presentation opportunities. Manage customer complaints and formulate resolution strategies in a proactive, professional and responsive manner, elevating to Senior Casualty Leadership as needed. Identify and reinforce lessons learned arising out of any complaint. Work in a collaborative fashion and develop strong business relationships with a wide array of company partners and peers (such as underwriting and general counsel counterparts) thus fostering the ability to exert influence when necessary. Ensure that direct reports understand the importance of communicating to producers and underwriters to provide them with time sensitive information that will assist in their business goals and consistently deliver that information. Identify all specific reporting mechanisms as needed to ensure compliance (e.g. LLN/CLR, EWS notices) and work to provide uniformity in reporting as appropriate. Actively evaluate staff performance to identify high performing employees, areas for training and development and work with training department to deliver appropriate support. Work within and across regions to share training opportunities as appropriate. Act as an effective role model in terms of attitude, teamwork and the ability to get the job done. Seek feedback to enhance own performance as a leader and create an environment that motivates others and builds morale. If needed, negotiate severe and complex claims and litigated matters above the monetary and coverage authority of direct reports. Establish clear goals at the individual level that tie to each department metric and support Casualty Tower objectives. Implement training and identify effective measurements necessary to drive positive results. Work with direct reports in gathering and providing information to assist Claim Leader in completion of monthly/ quarterly reports; financial/inventory metrics. Ensure quality, timeliness and accuracy of information through communication of expectations and active review and closely evaluate anomalies, providing commentary and analysis to Senior Casualty Leadership as requested. CPCU/Law degree is preferred. Must have 10+ years of claims/legal experience. Marine experience is a plus. Should have 5+ years of Management experience.
