Job Overview:
A leading law firm in the Oak Park area is seeking a dedicated Associate Immigration Attorney to join its expanding immigration team. Duties:
Represent clients—both detained and non-detained—in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Draft and submit a variety of immigration applications including I-589, I-130, I-485, and waivers
Prepare legal briefs, motions, and other written advocacy for EOIR and USCIS cases
Conduct intake visits and interviews with detained clients in detention centers
Provide legal counsel and strategy during client consultations
Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations regarding immigration issues
Guide clients through USCIS interviews and court hearings, including witness preparation
Monitor and manage caseload deadlines and progress using case management systems
Stay current on changes in immigration law and related legal trends
Requirements:
1 to 4 years of experience practicing immigration law
Strong understanding of EOIR procedures and USCIS application processes
Demonstrated ability to move cases forward and manage a diverse caseload
Willingness to engage in team-based legal strategy and client service
Experience working with detained populations preferred
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Licensed to practice law in a U.S. state
Active and in good standing with a state bar (Illinois preferred)
Skills:
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
High-level interpersonal and communication skills
Proficient legal writing and research capabilities
Familiarity with family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, EOIR, citizenship, and waivers
Competency with legal case management software is preferred
Ability to manage sensitive and emotionally charged cases with professionalism
