Job Overview: A reputable law firm is seeking an associate attorney with 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment or litigation law to join its practice. The role will involve handling a variety of labor and employment issues, including traditional labor/union matters, collective bargaining, discrimination laws, wage and hour law, and other employment-related legal areas. 

Location:

  • Syracuse, NY

Duties:

  • Perform research on labor and employment matters.
  • Draft employee handbooks, policies, and position statements.
  • Respond to administrative charges from agencies like the EEOC, NY State Division of Human Rights, and CT Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
  • Communicate with clients to gather information for position statements.
  • Draft motions for federal and state courts.
  • Respond to discovery requests.
  • Prepare deposition outlines, exhibits, and witnesses, with involvement in first and second chair depositions.
  • Assist partners with preparations for mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, fact-finding conferences, and trials.
  • Serve as second chair in mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials, and first chair when appropriate.
  • Meet the firm’s minimum billable hour requirement of 1,800 hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment or litigation law.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar or ability to waive in (preferred).
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active member in good standing of the bar.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Quick to absorb, process, and understand new information.
  • High standards of performance, responsibility, and dedication.
  • Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and levels within the organization.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred).

  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
