Patent Agent needed for St. Louis office

Profile

A law firm in St. Louis is seeking a qualified Patent Agent to join their team. This role involves working closely with inventors on newly created products, identifying patentable inventions, and drafting patent applications. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering or biotechnology, along with prior experience in patent law.

Duties:

• Assist patent attorneys with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications
• Work hand-in-hand with inventors on newly created products
• Assist in the identification of patentable inventions
• Research current patented technologies to best assist clients in patentable work
• Draft patent applications with the assistance of the patent team
• Track the patent application process from initial application to granted patent to ensure the team remains on track
• Complete ability searches regularly
• Solve client challenges and respond to client needs
• Respond to office actions and correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• Consistently meet billable hour requirements

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
• Master’s Degree or PhD desired
• 3+ years of professional experience
• USPTO Registration required

• Must have backgrounds in electrical engineering or biotechnology and prior experience working in the area of patent law.

• Strong understanding of patent law and procedures
• Excellent research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in drafting patent applications
• Ability to work collaboratively with inventors and patent attorneys
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
