A law firm seeks a Criminal Litigation Attorney in New York City, NY. The attorney will provide criminal prosecution services to municipal clients, handling petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor cases in district court across various counties. This role requires independent legal judgment, collaboration with law enforcement and court personnel, and the enforcement of city and state laws.

Duties

• Prosecute petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor offenses, including traffic and ordinance violations.
• Review police reports, citations, and evidence to determine appropriate charges.
• Appear in court for arraignments, pretrial hearings, motion hearings, trials, and sentencing.
• Provide courtroom advocacy from arraignment through jury trial.
• Negotiate plea agreements and case resolutions consistent with law and public safety priorities.
• Conduct legal research and draft charging documents, pleadings, motions, and briefs.
• Prepare and present legal arguments, examine witnesses, and introduce evidence at trial.
• Advise law enforcement officers on charging decisions, legal procedures, and courtroom preparation.
• Maintain accurate case files and records in coordination with court administration.
• Ensure compliance with constitutional requirements and ethical obligations.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in NY and in good standing.
• 16 years of criminal prosecution experience.
• Strong knowledge of criminal law, criminal procedure, rules of evidence, and constitutional law.

Education

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to practice law in NY.
