Trusts & Estates Counsel
An established law firm is seeking a seasoned Trusts & Estates Counsel with a minimum of 5 years of experience to join its private client practice. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable attorney to take on a leadership role advising high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries, and business owners on complex estate planning and administration matters. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical proficiency and sound judgment in handling sophisticated tax and estate planning strategies.
Advise clients on complex estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax matters
Draft a wide range of estate planning documents, including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, GRATs, SLATs, IDGTs, and charitable structures
Counsel fiduciaries and beneficiaries in trust and estate administration matters
Coordinate with tax professionals on estate and gift tax filings (e.g., Forms 706, 709)
Handle business succession planning and family office advisory services
Provide strategic guidance on wealth transfer, tax minimization, and legacy planning
Supervise junior attorneys and support staff, as applicable
Stay up-to-date with relevant changes in tax and trust law
Minimum of 5 years of experience in trusts and estates law
Proven ability to handle complex planning for high-net-worth clients
Experience managing estate administration and trust matters
Strong understanding of fiduciary responsibilities and probate procedures
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (state-specific license required based on office location)
LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning (preferred but not required)
Excellent drafting and analytical skills
Advanced knowledge of federal estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax laws
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
High attention to detail and commitment to client service
Ability to manage multiple client relationships and matters concurrently
