Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Lake Success, NY, is seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Planning Associate to contribute to its well-established estate planning and elder law practice. This role offers an opportunity to advise a varied client base, including high-net-worth individuals and families with special planning needs. The position emphasizes strategy development, legal drafting, and direct client interaction, with support from seasoned partners in a collaborative environment focused on empathetic, personalized counsel.

Duties:

• Draft and implement estate planning instruments, including wills, health care proxies, powers of attorney, and a variety of trusts

• Develop and execute asset protection and Medicaid planning strategies

• Counsel clients on legal and financial considerations for long-term care and incapacity planning

• Guide trust funding and planning for individuals with special needs

• Collaborate with colleagues on complex estate and tax planning matters

• Participate in firm initiatives aimed at client education and relationship development

• Engage in professional development and stay updated on changes in estate and elder law

• Optional: Contribute a small existing client base or book of business

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in estate planning, elder law, and/or tax planning

• Demonstrated knowledge of Medicaid eligibility, asset preservation, and trust administration

• Strong written communication and drafting skills

• Comfortable handling sensitive client matters with discretion and clarity

• Experience or interest in alternative dispute resolution is considered a plus

• Active license to practice law in the state of New York

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar (required)

• Technical drafting proficiency in estate and elder law documents
