Associate - Patent Litigation

Profile

A law firm seeks a Patent Litigation Associate for its San Francisco office to support its intellectual property litigation team. This position involves working on complex patent disputes for clients across various industries, including software and platform technologies. The role offers exposure to high-stakes litigation and opportunities for substantive case work early in the process.

Duties

• Manage all stages of patent litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.

• Draft legal documents such as memoranda, briefs, and discovery responses.

• Conduct legal research and analyze patent claims, technical documents, and prior art.

• Coordinate with expert witnesses and internal teams to develop case strategies.

• Support oral arguments, depositions, and hearings as needed.

Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience in patent litigation.

• Strong command of patent law and federal litigation procedures.

• Excellent writing, research, and analytical abilities.

• A technical degree in engineering, computer science, or a similar field is strongly preferred.

• Effective verbal communication and client interaction skills.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active membership in the California Bar or eligibility for admission.
