A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with semiconductor experience for its Washington, DC office. This role involves complex client work, including drafting patent applications and responses to the USPTO, and supporting attorneys in delivering efficient legal services.

Duties

• Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
• Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
• Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and inventors.
• Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
• Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
• Advise attorneys on technologies and investigate as needed.
• Draft, organize, analyze, review, and summarize documents.
• Communicate with staff, clients, vendors, and agency personnel.
• Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
• Identify and solve complex patent issues.
• Provide guidance to legal support staff.
• Stay updated on technology trends and recommend needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, material engineering, physics, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in the semiconductor industry.
• Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
• Advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage and impart confidential information.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.
• Knowledge of current and emerging developments in the field.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in various software packages and standard office equipment.
• Ability to travel as needed for client matters.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field.

Certifications

• USPTO registration preferred.
