Job Overview:
A prominent civil litigation firm based in Philadelphia is seeking a seasoned litigation attorney with specialized experience in Special Investigations Unit (SIU) matters. This role centers on defending against fraudulent claims, managing affirmative litigation, including RICO-based actions, and handling complex cases across multiple lines such as personal injury, uninsured motorist (UM), trucking, first-party property, PIP, workers’ compensation, and more. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong grasp of investigative litigation strategies and a commitment to combating insurance fraud in both federal and state courts.
Duties:
Collaborate with SIU departments to develop defense strategies against suspicious or fraudulent claims
Initiate and litigate affirmative actions, including Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) cases
Draft legal pleadings, motions, and memoranda for both defense and affirmative matters
Conduct and prepare for depositions, examinations under oath (EUOs), and trial proceedings
Engage in pre-trial and post-trial motion practice across multiple jurisdictions
Attend hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and conferences in both federal and state courts
Prepare detailed litigation plans and negotiate settlements when appropriate
Work with experts and witnesses to support trial preparation and courtroom presentation
Requirements:
Minimum of 4 years’ litigation experience, preferably in SIU-related or fraud matters
Prior exposure to affirmative litigation, including RICO or similar complex fraud litigation
Demonstrated ability to manage files independently from inception through resolution
Proficiency with legal research and drafting across a range of insurance litigation topics
Courtroom and deposition experience, including direct handling of witness testimony
Familiarity with commercial carriers and insurance defense clients preferred
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Pennsylvania State Bar
Federal court admission is a plus
