Job Overview:
A leading law firm is currently seeking a full-time USPTO-registered Patent Agent to support its Electronics & Software practice group. This role is ideal for professionals with strong experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications related to cutting-edge software technologies. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with legal teams and innovative clients across multiple industries, focusing on intellectual property strategy and portfolio development.

Location:

• Seattle, WA

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute domestic and international patent applications in software-related fields

• Advise clients on patent portfolio strategy and intellectual property protection

• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses

• Collaborate with attorneys and technical teams to support client goals

• Review and edit technical documentation and writing samples

• Maintain clear, organized communication with clients and legal colleagues

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in patent prosecution

• Proven ability to handle complex software and technology-based inventions

• Strong communication and organizational skills

• Detail-oriented with excellent writing and analytical capabilities

• Willingness to work on-site in one of the firm’s designated office locations

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in one of the following fields:

  • Computer Science

  • Computer Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mathematics

  • Physics

  • Or a closely related technical discipline

Certifications:

• Active registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO Reg. No. required)

Skills:

• In-depth understanding of software technologies including:

  • Cloud computing

  • Cybersecurity and encryption

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Bioinformatics

  • Mobile app development

  • Database systems

  • Networking technologies

• Strong technical writing and research skills

• Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

• Experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred
