A law firm seeks a motivated attorney to join its Laurel, MD, office in a hybrid capacity. The successful candidate will support the representation of lending institutions in high-volume default matters, including foreclosure, bankruptcy, eviction, and real estate-owned (REO) transactions, and will collaborate with a team of experienced professionals to deliver efficient, compliant legal solutions.
Duties
Manage and prioritize a substantial docket of default-related cases for financial institution clients
Draft, review, and revise pleadings, motions, and related court filings per local, state, and federal regulations
Appear at hearings, status conferences, and court proceedings to advocate on behalf of clients
Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, and internal team members regarding case progress and strategy
Analyze complex issues and propose creative approaches to minimize client exposure and resolve disputes efficiently
Collaborate with support staff to ensure accurate preparation and submission of documentation (e.g., bankruptcy schedules, eviction notices, REO closing paperwork)
Assist in training and mentoring paralegals to ensure consistent work quality and procedural compliance
Requirements
Admission to the Maryland Bar and in good standing
0–5 years of experience handling matters such as foreclosure, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, eviction, or REO transactions
Demonstrated ability to juggle a heavy workload and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong command of Maryland and federal procedural rules governing default servicing
Excellent organizational skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to craft persuasive legal arguments and produce crisp, professional written work product
Professional demeanor, sound judgment, and a proactive, “take-charge” attitude
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications
Active Maryland Bar membership
(Optional) Membership or involvement with relevant legal associations (e.g., Maryland State Bar Association creditor/debtor sections)
Skills
Proficiency in legal research tools and court electronic filing systems
Strong verbal communication skills for client calls, courtroom advocacy, and team collaboration
Ability to synthesize complex legal issues and present clear, actionable advice
Competence with case-management software and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Outlook)
Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
