Job Overview:
A respected law firm is seeking a seasoned Immigration Compliance Attorney to join its growing team in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This role focuses on ensuring immigration compliance across case filings, advising on regulatory matters, and representing clients in removal proceedings. The position provides an excellent opportunity to work on high-impact immigration issues while collaborating with attorneys, legal staff, and external partners. This opportunity is presented by a legal recruiting agency on behalf of the hiring law firm.

Location:

• San Juan, Puerto Rico

Duties:

• Provide legal counsel on complex immigration matters and compliance strategies

• Represent detained and non-detained individuals before Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA)

• Prepare and review a wide range of immigration applications, including family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and removal defense

• Analyze client cases and develop legal strategies aligned with compliance regulations

• Submit legal briefs and oversee filings to ensure accuracy and regulatory adherence

• Conduct audits and compliance reviews prior to final case closure

• Advise internal teams and stakeholders on best practices and regulatory updates in immigration law

• Present immigration policy updates to law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and community organizations

• Conduct strategic consultations with prospective clients and assess eligibility for benefits

• Collaborate with legal assistants, attorneys, and compliance staff to manage caseloads efficiently

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing immigration law

• Strong understanding of compliance procedures and regulatory frameworks in immigration

• Ability to manage multiple cases independently while meeting strict deadlines

• Proven success in removal defense and client advocacy

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting capabilities

• Proficient in case management software (preferred)

• High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills for client interaction

• Collaborative and adaptable in a fast-paced team environment
