Job Overview: An established law firm is looking for a team-oriented associate to join its Intellectual Property group. The ideal candidate will possess advanced academic credentials and a background in biological sciences, coupled with a minimum of four years of experience in patent prosecution. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge intellectual property matters, including patent applications, opinion letters, counseling, and due diligence, while collaborating with other practice areas to support life science clients.

Location:

• Chicago, IL

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications
• Prepare patent opinion letters
• Provide patent counseling to clients
• Conduct patent due diligence studies related to business transactions
• Collaborate with other practice groups to provide comprehensive services to life science companies

Requirements:

• Minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience
• Advanced degree in one of the following fields: biology, cellular biology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, biotechnology, cancer biology, pharmacology, bioengineering, microbiology, or related biological disciplines
• Current membership in the Patent Bar
• Experience in law firm or industry settings

Education:

• Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, molecular biology, bioengineering)

Certifications:

• Current Patent Bar membership required

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
