Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Associate in Saratoga Springs, New York. The ideal candidate will have 1 to 2 years of experience in patent prosecution law and hold a master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry. Recent law school graduates with prior work experience as a patent agent are also encouraged to apply.

Duties

• Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to small-molecule chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
• Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and conduct examiner interviews.
• Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity analysis.
• Analyze complex scientific data and provide clear legal and technical advice.
• Support IP due diligence, licensing, and portfolio management activities.
• Stay current on patent law developments and emerging technologies in chemistry.
• Communicate effectively with investors, in-house counsel, and foreign associates.
• Participate in client meetings and contribute to business development efforts.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Registration to practice before the USPTO.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Strong academic credentials.
• Excellent technical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other practice areas.

Education
