Job Title: Workers’ Compensation Attorney
Job Overview:
A reputable law firm based in Omaha, NE, is seeking a motivated attorney with experience handling workers’ compensation matters. This full-time role involves active litigation, case development, and legal research for insurance carriers and self-insured employers. Candidates will join a collaborative team and contribute to strategic defense efforts in compensation claims. Recruitment is being handled on behalf of the firm by a professional legal staffing agency.
Duties:
Compile, review, and analyze medical documentation and case-related records
Conduct depositions of claimants, medical professionals, and expert witnesses
Handle discovery processes, including drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests
Prepare legal pleadings, motions, briefs, and findings of fact
Advocate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and formal proceedings before administrative bodies
Deliver representation for employers and insurance entities in courtroom and administrative settings
Maintain direct communication with adjusters and insurance representatives
Assess trends in claims data and notify firm leadership of emerging issues
Assist with incident investigations and help mitigate potential liabilities
Engage in strategic negotiation of settlements and resolution of disputes
Coordinate internal and external claims review meetings
Produce case management updates and reports for internal tracking
Perform other tasks consistent with role expectations and EEO compliance
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of workers’ compensation litigation or related defense experience
Admitted to practice in Nebraska; admission in Iowa or other Midwest states is beneficial
Demonstrated experience managing a full caseload and litigating in workers' compensation forums
Familiarity with state and federal employment and labor law frameworks
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active and in good standing with the Nebraska State Bar
Admission in other states, such as Iowa, is advantageous
Skills:
Proficiency in legal research platforms and case law analysis
Strong written and verbal advocacy capabilities
Exceptional negotiation and case evaluation skills
Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively
Detail-oriented with a strategic mindset for litigation and settlement outcomes
Ethical integrity and commitment to confidentiality in sensitive matters
