Job Overview:
A law firm seeks an experienced Trial Attorney to join its real estate litigation practice, based in Concord, California. This role focuses on representing property owners, managers, and housing professionals in court proceedings related to landlord-tenant disputes, including unlawful detainer actions. The position offers the opportunity to regularly appear in court, prepare cases for trial, counsel clients on legal strategies, and work collaboratively with a dedicated team of legal professionals. Duties:

  • Represent property owners and property management companies in unlawful detainer trials and related legal proceedings in California state courts.
  • Prepare trial materials, develop case strategies, and coordinate witness preparation.
  • Conduct client consultations to evaluate legal issues, offer strategic advice, and provide clear legal guidance tailored to each case.
  • Draft legal correspondence, agreements, and settlement documents customized to client needs.
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure pre-trial filings, pleadings, and discovery requests are properly drafted and submitted.
  • Respond to discovery, conduct depositions, draft motions, and prepare trial briefs.
  • Address a range of landlord-tenant legal matters, including drafting notices and assisting with day-to-day legal questions from clients.
  • Maintain timely communication with clients, addressing questions and concerns to foster long-term relationships.

Requirements:

  • Licensed attorney in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Minimum of 1 year of trial experience, with preference for candidates who have conducted bench or jury trials.
  • Strong oral advocacy skills, with confidence presenting cases in court and questioning witnesses.
  • Familiarity with courtroom procedures, including evidentiary rules and trial techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Availability to appear in court several days each week.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active California Bar membership required.

  • Strong legal research and writing abilities, with attention to detail when drafting legal documents.
  • Capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
