Legal Counsel/Government Relations Advocate
The candidate identifies legislation and other public policy issues that can impact Also serves as a liaison with legislative/government officials informing them of programs and advocacy efforts. This position coordinates efforts with other child welfare organizations to promote its public policy agenda; this includes serving as the Secretary of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children -New York (APSAC-NY) Public Policy Committee. Provides information and assistance to the Executive Director regarding the legal aspects of child welfare/child protective issues, and regarding Court-related issues. As needed, provides legal expertise to the clinical team of firm on cases that involve the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), Family Court, Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Court or other outside entities. The Counsel is the liaison to outside counsel for company on contract issues. Identifies Requests for Proposals ( RFPs) for program and research opportunities, and assists the Director of Research and Evaluation on applications and letters of support from the Courts. Identifies and applies for City Council funding in support of company’s programs. Represents company by giving testimony to legislative committees regarding child protection and child welfare legislation. Reports to the Director of Research and Evaluation. Requires attorney admission to the NY State Bar and 7 years of experience litigating child welfare cases. Should be familiar with the legislative process at the state and federal levels, and have experience in reviewing, analyzing and commenting on child welfare/child protective legislation..
