Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a talented and motivated Associate Attorney with a focus on intellectual property law, specifically patent prosecution. This position involves working closely with clients, engineers, and scientists to protect and enforce intellectual property rights. The successful candidate will provide strategic advice on patent matters and support clients in navigating complex legal issues related to innovation.

Location:

• Minneapolis, MN

Duties:

• Prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• Coordinate with international counsel to facilitate the filing and prosecution of foreign patent applications
• Conduct patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and due diligence investigations
• Advise clients on patent strategy, including portfolio management and licensing agreements
• Conduct prior art searches and analyze patent landscapes
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand the technical aspects of inventions
• Assist in patent litigation and enforcement matters as needed
• Stay updated on changes in patent law and industry trends

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• Familiarity with international patent laws and practices

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Bar license (preferred)
• Admission to the USPTO (preferred)

Skills:

• Strong technical background in patent law
• Excellent analytical and research skills
• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to various stakeholders
• Familiarity with patent portfolio management and licensing agreements
