Associate Attorney

The candidate will be handling several Chapter 7, Chapter 11 and Chapter 13 dockets and, in that capacity, the attorney will prepare documents filed with the court and attend hearings. Responsible for attending hearings and preparing documents filed with the court, including motions for relief from stay, proofs of claim, and objections to confirmation. Responsible for reviewing files as they are assigned and developing strategies for handling these files. A bachelor’s and Juris Doctor degree. Admission to the VA State Bar. Should have 3-5 years of legal practice experience in consumer bankruptcy cases. Some experience representing mortgage creditors in consumer bankruptcy cases is preferred. Ability to manage a high file volume. Knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code and Virginia foreclosure statutes is required; knowledge of RESPA and familiarity with mortgage escrow accounts is preferred. Have demonstrated a high level of ability to perform research and efficiently and effectively communicate results both verbally and written, including publications. Knowledge of various corporate structures and arrangements and demonstrated ability to review and recommend alternatives. A demonstrated ability to effectively assess and balance risks and make business decisions.
