Entry to Mid-level Associate Attorney needed for Portland office

Job Overview:
An established law firm in Portland, Oregon is seeking an entry to mid-level associate attorney to join its insurance defense team. The firm specializes in civil litigation with a focus on insurance defense matters. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in civil litigation, excellent research and writing skills, and a strong work ethic. This is a hybrid position, offering a flexible work schedule after an initial training period.

Location:

• Portland, OR

Duties:

• Provide legal representation and counsel in insurance defense cases.
• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
• Prepare and argue motions in court, manage discovery processes, and engage in settlement negotiations.
• Participate in trial preparation and assist senior attorneys in handling complex cases.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
• Maintain and manage case files, ensuring compliance with all relevant deadlines and procedures.

Requirements:

• Membership in the Oregon State Bar is required.
• Membership in the Washington State Bar is preferred or eligibility for reciprocity.
• 2-4 years of practical experience in civil litigation, preferably with insurance defense experience.
• Excellent research, organizational, and writing skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and attention to detail.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Oregon State Bar membership (required).
• Washington State Bar membership (preferred, or qualification for reciprocity).

Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent research and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
• Experience with civil litigation processes, including trial preparation.
