An esteemed law firm is actively seeking a qualified Patent Agent with a minimum of four years of experience in patent prosecution. The successful candidate will support a diverse range of intellectual property matters, with a strong focus on the life sciences sector. This position involves close collaboration with patent counsel and attorneys across various practice areas to assist in protecting and managing clients' innovations globally.

Location

• West Hartford, CT

Duties

• Evaluate the patentability of innovations across diverse technology fields

• Draft, prepare, and file U.S. patent applications

• Prosecute U.S. patent applications and coordinate with foreign counsel for international prosecution

• Contribute to IP due diligence efforts and assist in strategic patent portfolio management

• Conduct legal and technical research and analysis on intellectual property issues

• Collaborate with legal teams, clients, and business units to develop IP strategies

• Act as a liaison for cross-functional and interdepartmental initiatives

• Communicate regularly with outside counsel and other stakeholders

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in patent prosecution within a law firm or corporate legal department

• Substantive background in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Familiarity with global IP filing and prosecution practices

• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced legal environment

Education

• Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline such as biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field

Certifications

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar in the near term

Skills

• Strong technical understanding of life sciences subject matter

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

• Experience in mechanical or electrical patent prosecution is a plus
