Job Title: Private Client Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A Southfield-based law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative associate attorney with a strong foundation in estate planning, probate, and trust administration. The ideal candidate will bring practical experience in these areas, including familiarity with federal estate and gift tax planning. The role provides an opportunity to work within a supportive private client team, delivering comprehensive legal services tailored to individual and family wealth management needs.
Duties:
Draft and review estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney
Manage probate proceedings and the administration of trusts
Provide strategic advice on minimizing estate and gift taxes
Handle complex wealth transfer and asset protection strategies
Communicate with fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and financial advisors to ensure efficient estate execution
Conduct legal research related to evolving state and federal tax laws impacting estate planning
Maintain detailed records and documentation to support compliance and legal integrity
Collaborate with attorneys across related practice groups as needed
Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of substantive experience in estate planning, probate, and trust administration
Understanding of estate and gift tax planning principles
Background in private practice or related professional setting (e.g., trust officer or fiduciary advisor)
Proven ability to manage files independently and work directly with clients
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to ethical client representation and professional responsibility
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the State Bar of Michigan, or the ability to obtain admission promptly
Skills:
Excellent legal drafting and analytical abilities
Familiarity with trust and estate software systems is a plus
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with research tools and office technology
