A law firm based in Southfield, MI, is seeking a full-time attorney licensed in New York to join a growing practice focused on consumer debt litigation. This fully remote position involves defending clients in civil lawsuits brought by creditors or debt buyers. The role emphasizes efficient resolution through settlements rather than complex litigation, making it ideal for attorneys experienced in consumer law or civil litigation who prefer a structured, non-courtroom-heavy workload.

Duties:

• Provide legal representation to clients involved in debt collection litigation across New York

• Handle a mix of direct representation and limited-scope assistance, including:

  • Reviewing and editing self-represented responses prepared by legal support staff

  • Advising clients enrolled in debt settlement programs

• Negotiate and facilitate voluntary settlement arrangements with creditors

• Occasionally attend hearings, with flexibility to delegate to local counsel if preferred

• Collaborate with internal legal teams to ensure compliance and consistency across matters

Requirements:

• Active license in good standing to practice law in the State of New York

• Minimum 5 years of experience in civil litigation

• Demonstrated familiarity with consumer finance law or debt collection litigation

• Ability to work independently in a remote setting with strong communication and organizational skills

• Comfortable using legal technology platforms for remote practice

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the New York State Bar (mandatory)

Skills:

• Strong legal drafting and review capabilities

• Litigation strategy and client advisement experience

• Knowledge of consumer protection statutes and debt collection practices

• Proficiency with remote collaboration tools and legal case management software
